I'm aching for this family!

I just got an e-mail from one of my friends who is in China right now. One of the families in her group has experienced a tragedy that is so hard to comprehend. The wife Sandi and her husband Dennis have been married 18 or 19 years, and this is their first child. Hannah (who is being adopted in China) is their daughter, and they were preparing to return to the States when Dennis fell ill.

Dennis was struggling to keep his blood glucose levels in check while in China and fell in to a diabetic coma yesterday. He died in Guangzhou two nights ago.

Sandi’s mother and brother are trying to get emergency visas to get to China to help out, and now there is concern that the US government (via the Consulate in Guangzhou) would deny Hannah’s visa to return to the States with her mother, as her father’s death affects the status of her adoption (on paper only, though).

Please pray for Sandi, Hannah, and their shock & grief. Please pray that the Consulate would not deny Hannah’s visa and that they would be able to return home unhindered, and for all arrangements for Dennis’ body. I ache for them....this just seems unfathomable! PLEASE PRAY!

I heard about this family yesterday and I immediately emailed a prayer request to my friend Jeanette who is also in Guangzhou bringing their sweet Elizabeth home. They had already heard about the family and were in fact staying just down the hall from them. It is absolutely heartbreaking and we are all praying that Sandi is allowed to bring Hannah home to the US. I don't know this family, but I can only imagine how they must be feeling. Only God can get them all through this. Facing such a tragic loss and trying to bond with a new daughter all at the same time, while a world away from home, seems impossible. But, God has know all along that this very thing was going to happen and only He knows how to heal this family and unite them all through their loss of a husband and gain of a daughter all at once.

I do have some friends in Hong Kong (no idea where that is in relation to this family) if you think they could be of any help at all. I'd be happy to contact them. Praying, praying ....

Came to your blog through Jamie's and have loved reading about your journey through adoption. I read this morning that the U.S. Consulate has denied Sandi's adoption of Hannah. They are asking for everyone who can to email or call "Sandi's congressman is Mike Rogers. His Washington office number is 202 225 4872. His Michigan office number is 517 702 8000, he also has a toll free number 1-877-333-MIKE.

Sandi's US Senator is Debbie Stabenow. Her Washington DC number is 202 224 4822 and her Michigan office number is 517 203 1760." Also Condoleeza Rice @ secretary@state.gov....praying for this family and for your journey also.
